Intolerance Is Gay
Aug/0914
SCIENCE
I was surfing Stumbleupon out of sheer boredness and came across this stupid picture.
It was part of a series of photos of a pro-gay-marriage rally.
I love pointing out incorrect rally signs, but this one was a little too easy.
Hate is not a choice. People who are anti-gay are intolerant, not hateful. Most anti-gay individuals were raised in non-liberal areas, so they didn’t get the same experience of individual equality that I did growing up in the Bay Area. Chances are they “hate” homosexuals just because their friends or peers do.
This gives hate a bad name. The word “hate” should not be associated with the absent-minded and ignorant concept of intolerance of gays. I have a lot of hate in me, yet I accept homosexuals as people. There’s really no reason not to, it’s just a different lifestyle. Intolerance is usually based on ignorance or misunderstanding. Hate is based on a recognition of an absolute, justified flaw and an intense, festering dislike for it. Take Bush for example. I tolerated Bush, but I hated him. I am intolerant of deer jumping in front of my car on a narrow road late at night because I don’t understand what they are thinking. Well that and the fact that they are stupid fucking deer.
Anyways, hate is not a choice, it is a mindset. Intolerance is a choice. But one thing I do hate is a sea of picket signs with flawed or debatable logic in each of their “spiffy” one-liners.
Here’s a one-liner I would use on a sign:
intolerance is gay

“Anyways, hate is not a choice, it is a mindset.”
It can be changed (mindsets) therefore one chooses to remain ignorant and hateful.
“People who are anti-gay are intolerant, not hateful.” No most of them are hateful.
Intolerance is gay…..
Intolerance is …unacceptable?
Intolerance is …lame?
Intolerance is …pathetic?
What is ‘gay’ meaning in your example. And whatever it means you have created an association with ‘gay’. And your don’t want HATE getting a bad name through association.

I hate Nazis. I can’t just want to like them and then start liking them, because I don’t define it as just.
Sure they are hateful, I should’ve rewritten that part. I meant to disprove the common belief that hate is ALWAYS accompanied by intolerance, because it’s not.
As for the title of the article, it is an ironic joke.

Hate is a combination of two emotions: Fear, the desire for self protection, and Anger, the desire to control or dominate another. Intolerance too is combination of different levels of Fear and Anger.
Those who are intolerant of or hate GLBTQ people are at some level afraid of them. They fear that maybe homosexuality is “catching” or they are afraid the homosexual will victimize them or their family and offspring, or afraid that somehow God, in smiting the homosexual, will generate a backlash will somehow affect them. Fears which are irrational and not based on reality.
Anger, when defined as desire to control others, manifest itself as murder, banishment, employment discrimination, segregation, or conversion therapy.
One can “choose” to remain ignorant and hold on to irrational fears of homosexuality and try to force “change onto another: ie hate and or intolerance.
One cannot “choose” the sexual feelings and desires which arise within when viewing another.
From this perspective the guy’s sign makes perfect sense.

no nhs Hate is not a choice. Hate is a feeling everyone expresses and feels that they do not control. If you could decide on what you do or don’t hate why would you hate anything? Lets say you hate republicans. Do you hate them because you choose to
? Or because their policies make you want to scream? You don’t choose to hate something, it comes natural to you.
To Johann how do you know someone didn’t laugh? Within the context of the article it is somewhat funny. To me it reinforces the point of the post. Obviously you didn’t quite understand it or chose to be a troll.
Good post Ted

terrific.
thanks for maintaining, nay, perpetuating the idea that gay equals bad. my christian friends and i are sick and tired of the intolerance we are shown by the gays in our city. sometimes they look at us funny and when we try to share the good news from the holy book they pretend they’re not interested. one time we even got a dirty look from one of them. it’s not fair.
