If you have ever tried to deactivate a Facebook account, you probably have noticed its attempt to guilt you into staying.

facebook

What Facebook does to make you stay.

They actually attempt to dissuade you from leaving by reminding you how much your heartless cyber buddies will miss you, which they won’t, and give you the option to send them one last message. They hope that you’ll send that message and get engaged in a conversation and forget entirely about deactivating your account. And they do this for money; more active accounts means more money for Facebook. However, even in the face of mindless greed, Facebook has been smart enough to not sell itself out immediately; they know that owning Facebook themselves instead of selling it to someone else will make them more money in the longterm. Myspace, on the other hand, is now owned by Fox Interactive Media, which is owned by News Corporation, which is owned by Rupert Murdock. News Corporation is one of the largest media giants in the world and its chairman Rupert is a crusty old man. And also extremely wealthy.

Rupert.

Rupert.

So, the next time you send a message to your girlfriend on Myspace describing how hot she looked in that skirt yesterday, just imagine good old rupert being a jerk.
